Kristi Hudson RN BSN CCRN has been a Critical Care Nurse since 1990. She has worked at UCI Medical Center for the past 10 years in both clinical and supervisory capacities. She is currently the Clinical Nurse Supervisor of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. UCI Medical Center employees more than 900 nurses and boasts current turnover, vacancy and registry usage rates that are far below the national average. Kristi has her Certification in Critical Care, she is an active ACLS instructor and holds memberships in AACN and ACNL (Association of California Nurse Leaders). Kristi finds the current "Nursing Shortage" very challenging, and is excited to share current tips, trends and strategies that will help create a positive work environment and at the same time make the delivery of high quality patient care seem like a breeze!
Course Description
This course is designed to explore 3 major leadership styles and discuss the pro's and con's of each. Focus will be placed on how to be a "leader" and not just the "boss". In addition, morale boosters that will help create a positive work environment will be explored. Prevention and resolving conflict in the workplace will also be discussed. This course will also provide tips and strategies for good recruitment and the financial benefits of long-term retention.

“Leadership styles” Discussion including the pro's and con's of the Authoritarian, Democratic and Laissez-Faire styles of leadership. A fun quiz will be taken to see what leadership category you fall under.

Are you a "Leader" or just the boss? Learn new techniques and strategies
that will give you the credibility and respect you need in order
to be an effective supervisor.
10:30-11:30
“Recruitment” Trends in the Nursing Shortage, Where to look and how to pick
good candidates. How to ask the right questions in the interview process.
11:30-12:30 Lunch Provided by DNE
12:30-1:30
“Retention” Now that you have hired good candidates, how do you keep
them? Strategies for keeping staff involved and enthusiastic. This section
will discuss how to set up a preceptor/mentor program.
1:30-1:45 Break
1:45-2:45
“Morale Boosters" Great suggestions and ideas that cost little or no money.
These ideas will keep your staff happy and productive.
2:45-3:30
“Conflict Resolution” Mediate your way to an improved work environment.
Discussion to include strategies to minimize conflict and the benefits of
successful conflict resolution.
3:30-4:00
Open Forum Discussion- as a group the class will discuss how to overcome
potential pitfalls or difficulties that may arise when attempting to
implement new leadership strategies, morale boosters or
recruitment and retention techniques.

Registration
Tuition includes, Continental Breakfast, Lunch, CE Certificate and Program Booklet. Registration is open until class is full. Registration at the door is accepted. Prior registration is the preferred method.
Cancellations/Refunds
Cancellations made less then 14 days prior to class will require a $25.00 processing fee. After class start date, not refunds or credits will be given. No refunds will be given for "No Shows". In the unlikely event that this course is cancelled by this company, only tuition fees will be reimbursed.
