Trip Description This trip is a continuing education Turn-Around to Buffalo Bills Hotel & Casino at State Line, NV. The courses offered for this trip are self paced courses that the nurse can take on the way to State Line and on the way back. Simply read the course material and answer the questions in the back of the booklet and hand your answer sheet to one of DNE’s staff members. Kristi Hudson will be attending this trip and will be available for any comments and to answer any questions that you may have regarding these courses. This group will spend 8 hours at State Line giving plenty of time to gamble or shop at the outlet stores. The bus will arrive at approximately 12:00 noon and it will depart at 8:00 pm.

Author of Self Paced Courses Kristi Hudson RN BSN CCRN Kristi has been a Critical Care Nurse since 1990. She has worked at UCI Medical Center since 1993 which is a Level 1 Trauma Center. Kristi has extensive experience in caring for the Critical Trauma Patient and has held both Clinical and Supervisory positions in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. She is currently the Nurse Manager of the Neuroscience Department. Kristi has her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and has her Certification in Critical Care (CCRN).
Agenda of Self Paced Courses
Trauma: The Complications of ARDS, Sepsis, Fluid Resuscitation and the Acid-Base Imbalances that often occur in Trauma Patients. (4 CE’s)
Course Description:
This course is geared to give an overall view of the care and management of the trauma patient with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and/or Sepsis. Focus will be placed on diagnostic criteria, signs and symptoms, nursing assessment and Pathophysiologic changes. Mechanical Ventilation options, Oxygen delivery and consumption, and End Tidal Co2 monitoring will also be discussed. The stages of Hypovolemic shock and the importance of re-establishing circulation with fluid and Vasopressors will be presented. Finally this course will explain the Acid-Base imbalances of Respiratory/Metabolic Acidosis/Alkalosis and the role of the bodies buffering system that attempts to correct these imbalances.
Stroke Scales and Clinical Assessment Tools-2 CEs
Course Description:
This course is designed to describe and investigate the use of several currently used Stroke Scales. Emphasis will be on categories, characteristics, implementation, guidelines and rationale for the use of these scales. Comparison of the Glasgow Outcome Scale and the Disability Ranking Scale (DRS) will provide evidence of how important it is to match the correct assessment scale with the appropriate patient, based on diagnosis or disease process.
Culture and Nursing Care-2 CEs
Course Description:
This course is designed to educate the nurse of how cultural differences and diversity affect patient care. Course subject matter that will be introduced includes the “Isms” of cultural diversity as well as cultural assessment and cultural communication. In addition this course will include information about the characteristics and history of immigration and refugee families. This course will also discuss how different cultural groups perceive and tolerate the pain that is often associated with disease and illness.

Catching the Bus
Please allow enough time to find the Park & Ride location, find appropriate parking, gather your belongings and to sign in. In order to respect all that will be traveling to State Line, the bus will leave promptly at the times specified. The scheduled departure time from State Line is 8 pm or for a minimum of 8 hours, however the bus will not leave prior to 8 pm.
Cancellations/Refunds
Cancellations made less then 14 days prior to
class will require a $25.00 processing fee.
After trip start date; no refunds or credits will
be given. No refunds will be given for "No Shows". If one misses the bus, they will be considered a “No Show”. In the unlikely event that course cancellation is required by this company, only tuition fees will
be reimbursed.
